Understandig Rio street carnival 1

The street carnival are structured in groups named: block, cordon, band or rancho. . A Carnival Street Parade are created like this: a friend’s group, who lives togrether by some interest: neighbourhood, same wok place, leisure, etc.. had regular meetings to decide about the name, colors, and flag which were be used in the parade. They who had design skills made the flag and dressings, those who knew music compose a carnival theme and together went by the streets singing, dancing, flirting and inviting people to join them, in their gayness and happiness.

Each year in the days before the carnival period the group make a new T-shirt to sell to obtain some funds for the parade. Also to acquire funds for the parade some groups organize musical meetings open to the pubic: parties, balls or even trials. All these events before the parade constitute the Precarnival period which begins in the first days of January until the carnival Saturday. Some groups make there parades in the period comprised the Ash Wednesday to Sunday after carnival. This period is knowned as Postcarnival.

Escravos da Mauá - 2007 Réveillon Party

This is a very special party. It happens in the first Friday of the year in an open air square in the old city region downtown, close the Rio de Janeiro habour. This place is considered the birthplace of the Samba. The party itself has a lot of analogies with the traditional one: white dressing, indoor fireworks, champagne, not the french drink but a brazilian guarana drink which has the same name and lots of midnight kisses. You find also popular street food of Rio de Janeiro such as: spits, large-sized sausage, cheese and meat pastries, etc prepared by the people who lives nearby. All these at the sound of most popular sambas played by the "O Fabuloso Grupo Eu Canto Samba" (The Fabulous Group I Sing Samba), the Escravos da Maua (Maua Slaves) street block samba band. See the event pictures and videos at our site.

2007 Carnival in Rio de Janeiro

The Rio de Janeiro street carnival has began in November. Except Escravos da Mauá, which performs monthly all year long, we remark that Suvaco do Cristo made two rehearsals, Escravos da Mauá and Simpatia presented their t-shirts for 2007 carnival, Barangal promoted a party to choose its t-shirt illustration and Monobloco performed in Christmas day. Carnaval Virtual's site was not updated during this period, we apologize for that, but we attended the following events: a presentation of the Recife Carnival at Ipanema Beach, we traveled in the Samba Train in December 2nd, the National Samba Day, and we were at the presentation of the 2007 Simpatia T-shirt, which was illustrated by the painter Mauricio Arraes, an old friend of our site - have a look in the site Gallery. We are working hard to update our site. The event calendar was updated and this blog initiated to improve the communication with our public. Wait for other news that will come soon.
